COVID-19 Update and Thanksgiving Break Travel

On Tuesday, Contra Costa County advised that we have moved back into the purple tier. We have emphasized a “slow and grow” approach, taking the county recommendations and requirements as the primary guide in our decision making. We have always emphasized the health and safety of the faculty, staff and students and that remains the focus. Considering the stated trajectory of the cases in our county, the timing of the holiday and inevitable travel, as well as the heightened concerns of our community, I am in the process of examining if it will be necessary to make adjustments to our Reopening In-Person Instruction Plan. We know our students learn best at school, especially our littles. I/we must balance the health and safety of our school community as it relates to the totality of the circumstances presented to us both now and in the future. No plan of action will meet the individual needs of each family. However, now more than ever we need to continue to be flexible and resilient in our management of this extraordinary year. I will communicate with all families via our Blast to update you if any changes to our schedule and reopening plan are made.

Purple Tier Considerations:

Thanksgiving Break and Travel

Knowing that there will be a great deal more travel over the week-long Thanksgiving break, please know that there is no prohibition on family travel during the holidays, though it is strongly discouraged by health agencies. Saint Francis of Assisi will not “police” travel by any employees or school families. To do so would possibly interfere with the privacy rights of those employees or families.

Nevertheless, the goal of SFA is to maintain a COVID-19 safe school environment. Following the return from our break, please continue to assure that your child comes to school only if they are free of COVID-19 symptoms. If students show COVID-19 symptoms while attending school, they will be removed from class promptly. Likewise, if any employees return from the holidays with any COVID-19 symptoms, they too will not be allowed to be at school.
