Dear Families,
The Planning Committee has been working over the past few months preparing to fully reopen Saint Francis of Assisi School for the 2020-2021 school year.  That preparation has advanced remarkably well, with new health and safety protocols, classroom reconfigurations, intensive sanitizing procedures, and testing procedures ready to launch our year.
But our plans have always been predicated on the state of COVID-19 as we continue to the start of the school year.  As we heard on Friday at the press conference, Governor Newsom’s “mandate” will require all of our schools to begin the year in distance learning as our county is currently on the watch list. We will now thoughtfully review the new criteria for reopening our school campuses, as well as the guidance coming from our county health officials.  While disappointing to many of us and certainly not the start of the year we anticipated, the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff MUST and ALWAYS will take precedence.  https://files.covid19.ca.gov/pdf/guidance-schools.pdf
The Academic Experience:
Our faculty successfully transformed their classes from on-campus learning experiences to remote classes in March within a matter of hours. This allowed for the continued learning of our students which enabled them to be promoted to the next grade level. Our faculty will continue to develop additional learning experiences for our students in the fall, including discussion groups and office hours for one-on-one meetings with faculty and staff.
Saint Francis of Assisi will hold classes Monday through Friday with live instruction via Google Meet.  Each student will need access to a device during the school day.  More details regarding the school day schedule and classes will be forthcoming.
We understand that COVID-19 has inflicted significant financial hardships on many families.  The tuition that is set for Saint Francis of Assisi School is the basis for teacher salaries, support staff, instructional material, and school plant management. If you have any questions regarding your specific tuition payments, please contact our bookkeeper at [email protected]
The Future:
Despite the disruptions and hardships caused by COVID-19, we are confident that our Saint Francis of Assisi School students will continue to get an excellent education, and become Faith-Filled People, Life-Long Learners and Problem Solvers, Globally Responsible Citizens and Effective Communicators.
It remains our intention to return to in-person learning when we are approved and ready to do so. As Governor Newsom shared, it will take all of our efforts to bend the curve on cases, allowing our counties to come off the watch list. I know we are all committed to this end as the safety and well-being of all our school communities is our priority. Although the platform for learning is changing for the start to our new school year, our commitment to providing a quality, Catholic education for our students continues to be strong!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs. VanderKlugt
